Lighthouses of Port Stephens Exhibition at the Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre
The Tomaree Museum Association (TMA) is holding an exhibition showcasing the Lighthouses of Port Stephen, hosted at the Visitor Information Centre from 1 to 31 August.
Before the Outer Lighthouse was built in 1862 at Point Stephens, 24 ships were wrecked, many mistakenly trying to enter False Bay (Fingal Bay) rather than Port Stephens heads.
The exhibition will highlight the important roles these lighthouses and their keepers played in providing navigation safety and support for the burgeoning sea trade along the coast between Broken Bay and Seal Rocks.
In support of the exhibition, local legend and TMA historian John "Stinker" Clark will be giving 3 talks on the historic 'Outer Lighthouses' of Port Stephens.
Talks will take place on:
Tuesday 8 August – 1:30pm
Tuesday 15 August – 1:30pm
Tuesday 22 August – 1.30pm
For these talks, places are limited, so please call the VIC to reserve your place: 4988 0900
The exhibition is open daily throughout August, at the VIC.
Both the talks and the exhibition are free to attend.
