ANZAC Exhibition at Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre

Discover the stories of Port Stephens during WWII

The Tomaree Museum Association invites you to an ANZAC tribute exhibition, held at the Port Stephens Visitor Centre from Monday 14 April to Friday 9 May 2025.

This exhibition brings to life the personal experiences of local heroes, featuring:

  • Explore the the remarkable story of Flight Lieutenant Donald Howard a Port Stephens resident who survived a harrowing crash in Papua New Guinea and lived to the age of 101 (includes memorabilia of a Catalina flying boat pilot).
  • Trace the footsteps of Lieutenant Mathieson, an army transport driver and amphibious truck platoon commander, whose service spanned the Middle East and the Pacific.
  • View military uniforms, artefacts, and informative banners detailing wartime training and defences in the Port Stephens region and amphibious landing training in the bay with the U.S. Army.
  • Watch powerful video interviews with servicemen who served on HMAS Manora during WWII.

We also honour the contributions of all Port Stephens-connected veterans who served in post-WWII conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
