Life’s Simple Pleasures…

With nothing more satisfying than buying direct from the grower, local roadside gems are the perfect way to gather up a picnic hamper of gourmet delights, local brews and homemade products for your day trips and adventures as you explore the region of Port Stephens.

It’s just a two and half hour drive north of Sydney and the ultimate weekend getaway to indulge in all that the vineyards, farms and markets have to offer, without the madding crowds.

Its close connection to nature makes Port Stephens a foodie’s paradise. But before you even begin to fill your tummy with the tantalising treats that will no doubt tempt you beyond your arrival, there’s no better way to start a holiday then to find the best brew in town – of coffee that is.

Home grown produce

Run completely as a non-for-profit café by staff and volunteers and using only Australian grown coffee, Spectrum is a local favourite and the place to pick up your morning brew.  With a ‘Garden of Eden’ vibe and calming serenity, the menu has something for everyone, serving delicious dishes made fresh in the kitchen from the café’s own home-grown produce.

Throughout the warmer seasons the Spectrum Farmers Market is held every second Saturday of the month.  Here you can find local fruit and veggies, delicious honey, loose-leaf tea and other natural, organic treats.  Find Spectrum on Nelson Bay Road in Anna Bay before venturing out west for a picturesque drive around the western areas of Port Stephens.

Hinterland ramble

Explore the Hinterland and quiet rambling country roads of Seaham, Duns Creek and Hinton that are dotted along the Patterson River, followed by a lazy picnic lunch of the goodies gathered upon your arrival into Port Stephens while watching the boats meander along the river.

If you still have daylight hours left (and your belt still in place) then stop in to Divers Luck Winery at Bobs Farm, a memorable little place just 12 minutes out from Anna Bay. A family owned and operated boutique winery surrounded by a beautiful setting; Divers Luck produces quality award-winning wines from handpicked grapes. Learn how their red blends are made using ancient European methods including hand plunging and grapes pressed with a basket press.

Twilight cruise dinner

Be sure to pick up a bottle of their Mad Diver (red blend)to enjoy with a Twilight Dinner on board a Moonshadow Cruise, the perfect dining experience. Enjoy appetisers on arrival, followed by a modern Australian buffet featuring a large variety of fresh, local seafood, Hunter meats and exquisite vegetarian dishes; all prepared fresh on-board by local chefs.

Dance the night away with live entertainment or retreat to the alfresco top deck to enjoy a gluttonous selection of desserts while admiring the breathtaking rise of the moon.  Bookings are essential with both a 2.5 and 4-hour dinner cruise available.
